Description
The Whitworth Wall Stay
The Whitworth wall stay is the decorative one: a solid brass stay, made by Castrads, that ties a floor-standing cast iron radiator back to the wall — finished with a cap wearing the worker bee, the emblem of our home city of Manchester.
What it does
- Steadies the radiator: the stay anchors a floor-standing cast iron radiator back to the wall and takes out any movement.
- Adjusts to your installation: threaded along its full length, so it sets to the exact gap between radiator and wall.
The worker bee
Castrads put the bee on the cap at the radiator end — the part that faces the room — so the small piece of hardware most makers leave plain becomes the detail people notice. Manchester has worn the worker bee since its industrial heyday; on a cast iron radiator, it is exactly at home.
What’s in the set
- Fully threaded solid brass stay with a clamp plate for the radiator end, capped with the embossed bee.
- Turned wall rose for a neat wall fixing.
- Nine finishes: Antique Brass, Antique Copper, Black Nickel, Chrome, Natural Brass, Natural Pewter, Polished Brass, Polished Nickel and Satin Nickel — matching our valve sets and pipe kits.
The Castrads Whitworth wall stay is a stock accessory: it ships by Royal Mail and is covered by our 30-day returns policy. After something plainer? The Classic wall stay matches the same finishes without the bee; the Steel is the out-of-sight workhorse.
